Q: Who is my County Supervisor?
A: There are five members of the Board of Supervisors who represent one of five districts that collectively make up the County of Los Angeles. To find out who your Supervisor and other elected representatives are, click on the link below:
Q: What are Municipal Services?
A: Municipal Services are services such as local law enforcement, fire suppression, emergency medical, street maintenance, streetlights, libraries, parks and recreation, and land use planning and zoning. The County of Los Angeles provides municipal services to the residents of unincorporated communities.
Q: What is the main difference between a city and an unincorporated area?
A: The main difference is that cities are legal entities, separate from the County, whose governmental structure includes a Mayor, City Council, and generally a City Manager.
The governing body of unincorporated areas is the County Board of Supervisors. The County provides municipal services to unincorporated areas and cities are responsible for providing municipal services to their residents.
Q: What makes my area unincorporated?
A: Your area is unincorporated because it is not part of a neighboring city’s jurisdictional boundaries.
Q: Who can I call if I need information on County services or need to report a problem in my neighborhood?
A: Help Line is a toll-free telephone service available to all residents and business owners in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. The service ensures caller access to County services by providing a single point of contact for non-emergency information and referral to the appropriate service within the County. Help Line also provides a single point of access for callers who need to have neighborhood code enforcement issues addressed.
